# Add ZARMS to Gmail and Google Docs

> With the ZARMS Google Workspace add-on, you can create cards from emails in Gmail and check cards in the Google Docs side panel. How to install it, and what to check when it doesn't work.

With the ZARMS Google Workspace add-on, you can use ZARMS from the side panel on the right of Gmail and Google Docs, without opening ZARMS. Install it once and it works in both Gmail and Docs.

* **Gmail**: Create a card on the board you choose from the email you have open ([Create a card from an email in Gmail](https://help.zarms.cloud/en/addon/gmail.md)).
* **Google Docs**: When you open a card's document, the card's status and assignees appear in the side panel ([Check a card from its document](https://help.zarms.cloud/en/addon/docs.md)).

## Before you start

The add-on works with a Google account that has signed in to ZARMS before. With an account that has never signed in, the side panel says to sign in to ZARMS first. [Sign in to ZARMS](https://help.zarms.cloud/en/getting-started/sign-in.md) first.

## Install it for your account

**1. Open Google Workspace Marketplace**

In the side panel on the right of Gmail or Google Docs, press **+** (Get add-ons), or open
[Google Workspace Marketplace](https://workspace.google.com/marketplace).

**2. Find and install ZARMS**

Search for "ZARMS" and press **Install**.

**3. Allow access**

Choose the Google account you use for ZARMS and allow the permissions shown.

**4. Open it from the side panel**

Reopen Gmail or Google Docs. The ZARMS icon appears in the side panel on the right. Press it to
open ZARMS.

## Install it for everyone in your company

Google Workspace admins can install ZARMS as a Marketplace app for the whole organization or specific departments from the Google Admin console. For the steps, see [Google's help](https://support.google.com/a/answer/172482).

If your organization restricts Marketplace apps, people can't install it themselves. In that case, ask your Google Workspace admin.

## What the add-on reads

The add-on only asks for these permissions:

* The email address of the Google account you're using (to match it with your ZARMS user)
* The ID of a Google Doc you have open and have allowed (to check whether it's a card's document)
* The email you have open in Gmail. It reads only that email, and only when you press **Create card**

It doesn't read any other emails or files.

## If something goes wrong

| Symptom | What to check |
| - | - |
| The side panel says to sign in to ZARMS first | Is it a Google account that has signed in to ZARMS? Is Gmail open with a different account? |
| The ZARMS icon doesn't appear | Did you reopen Gmail or Docs after installing? Does your organization restrict add-ons? |
