# Create a card from an email in Gmail

> How to create a card on a board from the email you have open in Gmail, using the ZARMS add-on. The subject becomes the card name, and the body becomes the card's document.

You can turn the email you have open in Gmail into a card. The subject becomes the card name, and the body goes into the card's Google Doc. Use it for requests from customers or emails you want to follow up on later.

[Install the add-on](https://help.zarms.cloud/en/addon/install.md) first.

## Create a card

**1. Open the email**

In Gmail, open the email you want to turn into a card.

**2. Open ZARMS in the side panel**

Press the ZARMS icon in the side panel on the right.

**3. Choose a board**

Under **Board**, choose the board or My board to put the card on. If you belong to more than one
team, the team name appears before each board name.

**4. Create the card**

Press **Create card**. "Card created." appears, and the new card is shown in the side panel.

## The card you get

* **Card name**: The email's subject.
* **Document**: The email body goes into the card's Google Doc, with the sender and a link to the original email at the top.
* **Assignees, dates, and so on**: Follow the board's [card create defaults](https://help.zarms.cloud/en/boards/settings.md#card-create-defaults).

After that, you can change the status from the side panel or continue in **Open card in ZARMS**. The side panel works the same as in [Check a card from its document](https://help.zarms.cloud/en/addon/docs.md#what-you-can-do-in-the-side-panel).

## If something goes wrong

| Symptom | What to check |
| - | - |
| "There are no boards you can add cards to." appears | Does a team you belong to have a board that isn't archived? |
| A message says the body was put in the card description instead | The card was created. Check the board's Google Drive folder ([Google Drive errors](https://help.zarms.cloud/en/troubleshooting/google-drive.md)) |
| A message says the card couldn't be created | Press it again. If it keeps happening, check that you can open the board in ZARMS |
